We removed all references to SonicBids because they are a rip off and are part of the trends ruining the music "industry." Under the guise of independence and saving money for musicians in the industry, they have created a fiefdom for themselves as sponsors of most major music events and contests and then requiring that all submissions go through them.  Since they have been in business, the prices to submit music to ANYTHING have not only been created, but have soared out of reach for artists.  It is forcing the music industry to reify the syndrome that the one who has the most money, regardless of talent or message, will get heard.  I can create a electronic press kit on my website (see the above link) but in order to get into any festivals or contests, I am now forced to go through and pay the monopolistic SonicBids.  We musicians and artists need to be alert and talk to each other about such scams  which become the status quo and undermine creativity and opportunities. I am currently building a virtual salon (www.fairtrademusicmanifesto.org) for these information sharing discussions and would welcome your feedback.

Broadcast Localism: The AFM takes a stand on Current Issues - The Federation resolves to undertake efforts to increase broadcast localism, joining with other artists' organizations to make its position know to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The Federation defines the broadcast localism as programming and material created by community members, as a licensing process that receives input from co9mmunity members, and as broadcasting that serves the local, public interest. The Federation further believes the FCC must prohibit new destructive payola practices that control the radio and music industries today and improve existing procedures for enforcing payment and sponsorship identification rules.  Kathleen is a proud member of Phoenix Local 586 and a Board Member of Community Supported KXCI-FM 91.3 Tucson/ www.kxci.org.
